About
Professor Ibrahim Malek holds a private practice as a Consultant Lower Limb Orthopaedic Surgeon at Nuffield Health Chester Hospital, The Grosvenor. His NHS base is Wrexham Maelor Hospital.
Professor Malek's main interests are minimally invasive surgery, computer navigated knee and hip replacements, enhanced recovery after surgery, revision hip and knee surgery and patient reported outcomes.
He qualified from India in 2002 and completed basic surgical training from Mersey Deanery in 2005. He is proud to be a product of the prestigious Welsh Orthopaedic Training Programme. He had a special interest in hip and knee replacement procedures since his initial training years - and he performed nearly four times more replacement procedures than expected from an average orthopaedic trainee at the end of their training.
Professor Malek completed his fellowship training in adult hip and knee reconstruction in Australia, developing advanced expertise in both primary and revision joint replacement surgery. He is dedicated to delivering highly personalised care, taking a holistic view of each patient rather than focusing solely on the joint condition. By understanding the wider context of a patient’s life, he ensures that every recommendation aligns with their individual goals and circumstances. Professor Malek works closely with a multidisciplinary team of experienced healthcare professionals across all his practising sites. Together, they aim to provide a smooth and supportive surgical journey, from initial consultation through to recovery and rehabilitation, with an emphasis on efficient hospital stays and safe return to daily life.

He presented his research work at prestigious national and international meetings and proud to have received awards from British Hip Society and American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.

Alongside his clinical work, Professor Malek contributes to education and research. He is a Visiting Professor at Wrexham University and supports the development of future orthopaedic surgeons as a clinical and educational supervisor within the NHS. He also serves as Research and Arthroplasty Lead at Wrexham Maelor Hospital and has led multiple national and international research studies as a Principal Investigator.
