About
Professor Iyer has extensive experience in the management of both adult and paediatric ear diseases, as well as the full spectrum of general ENT conditions.
Currently, Professor Iyer works as a Consultant ENT Surgeon with a special interest in Otology for NHS Lanarkshire, based at University Hospital Monklands, Airdrie.
Education
Professor Iyer completed his Higher Surgical Training in the Newcastle rotation, obtaining his Certificate of Completion of Specialty Training (CCST) in Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery in 2005.
He subsequently undertook a prestigious Otology/Neurotology Fellowship at Auckland City Hospital and Starship Children’s Hospital in New Zealand.
Teaching
Professor Iyer is Scotland’s pioneering surgeon in Minimally Invasive Endoscopic Ear Surgery (EES) and serves as Professor at the University of Glasgow.
He organises and directs several nationally and internationally recognised training courses, including:
- The Temporal Bone Dissection Course at the University of Glasgow
- The Glasgow Endoscopic Ear Surgery Course
- The Emergency ENT Course
- The Head and Neck Dissection Course (in association with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow).
Professor Iyer also serves as faculty on numerous international courses in Italy, Australia, India, Sri Lanka, and the USA.
He is an examiner for both the MBChB (University of Glasgow) and the MRCS/FRCS (ORL) examinations conducted by the Royal College of Surgeons.
He is also actively involved in training and mentoring ENT registrars, contributing significantly to the development of the next generation of ENT specialists.

- General adult ear, nose and throat conditions.
Personal interests
In his spare time Professor Iyer enjoys travelling, photography and listening to classical music.

During his and after his training Professor Iyer completed research in various aspects of ENT, presenting papers in local, national and international conferences.
