Prof Michael is a Consultant Medical Oncologist with a specialist interest in ovarian cancer and kidney cancer. She qualified in 1994 and subsequently trained at St George’s Hospital, Royal Marsden Hospital and Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital. In 2006 was awarded a PhD for research in Cancer Vaccines. She currently works at Royal Surrey County Hospital and at the University of Surrey as a Senior Lecturer.

Prof Michael is involved in a number of research projects, clinical research as well as translational research. She runs a number of national and international clinical trials for new cancer treatments as a local Principal Investigator as well as a Chief Investigator. She has interest in cancer vaccines and immunotherapy as well as gene therapy approaches to cancer treatment She coordinates a number of projects in a variety of tumours to evaluate new cancer biomarkers with a particular interest in transcription factor- Engrailed and HOX proteins. This is part of a PhD programme looking into the role of HOX genes and Engrailed proteins in ovarian cancer.
