About

Dr Agnieszka Michael is a Consultant Medical Oncologist specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of ovarian cancer, kidney cancer and other urological cancers. She qualified in medicine from the University of Wroclaw, Poland, in 1994 and completed specialist training in medical oncology at leading London centres including St George's Hospital, The Royal Marsden Hospital and Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.

In 2006, Dr Michael was awarded a PhD for her research into cancer immunotherapy and cancer vaccines before completing her specialist oncology training in 2007. She was appointed Consultant Medical Oncologist and Clinical Senior Lecturer at Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust and the University of Surrey in 2008.

Dr Michael has extensive experience in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of ovarian cancer, kidney cancer and renal cell cancer. She has a particular interest in immunotherapy, chemotherapy and personalised cancer treatment, helping patients access the latest advances in oncology care through clinical trials and innovative therapies.

Alongside her clinical practice, Dr Michael is actively involved in national and international cancer research. She serves as both a Principal Investigator and Chief Investigator on clinical trials evaluating new cancer treatments, including immunotherapy agents, gene therapy and cancer vaccines. Her research focuses on improving outcomes for patients with ovarian and urological cancers, as well as identifying new biomarkers that may support earlier diagnosis and more targeted treatment approaches.

Dr Michael is also Medical Director of the Surrey Clinical Trials Unit, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Surrey and a divisional lead for cancer within the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Clinical Research Network. She remains committed to advancing cancer treatment through research while delivering high quality, patient centred oncology care.

Research

Prof Michael is involved in a number of research projects, clinical research as well as translational research. She runs a number of national and international clinical trials for new cancer treatments as a local Principal Investigator as well as a Chief Investigator. She has interest in cancer vaccines and immunotherapy as well as gene therapy approaches to cancer treatment She coordinates a number of projects in a variety of tumours to evaluate new cancer biomarkers with a particular interest in transcription factor- Engrailed and HOX proteins. This is part of a PhD programme looking into the role of HOX genes and Engrailed proteins in ovarian cancer.
