About
Mr Simon Wood is an experienced Consultant Gynaecologist and Specialist in Reproductive Medicine at Nuffield Health The Grosvenor Hospital, Chester. He qualified in Liverpool in 1990 and completed extensive postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology across Merseyside and Manchester, gaining broad expertise in both medical and surgical gynaecology. He later became a Research Fellow in the largest NHS gynaecology unit in the UK, contributing to advances in women’s health and fertility care.
He was the first gynaecologist in the North West to complete sub‑specialist training in Reproductive Medicine, undertaking five years of advanced training in fertility, reproductive endocrinology, recurrent pregnancy loss, and hormonal treatment. Mr Wood is now the Lead Clinician and HFEA Person Responsible for the Fertility Unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital, overseeing high‑quality, evidence‑based fertility services.
His work has included establishing a male infertility investigation and treatment service, introducing ambulatory gynaecology, outpatient hysteroscopy, and outpatient fertility screening, as well as leading the implementation of enhanced recovery pathways to improve patient outcomes.

Mr Wood was the lead gynaecologist for academic research at the Countess of Chester and is the lead investigator for 5 trials at the hospital. He is the author of over 40 publications as well as book chapters mostly focused on fertility, andrology and implantation. He has been invited to present at many local, national and international meetings and sit on the education and training committee of the British Fertility Society, and chair and run national meetings on fertility.
