About
Mr Simon Thompson specialises in all aspects of knee surgery, with particular expertise in ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) reconstruction, meniscal surgery, complex ligament injuries and knee replacement surgery.
He also has a special interest in paediatric knee injuries and anterior knee pain in athletes.
ACL and sports knee injuries
Mr Thompson is internationally recognised for his work in knee ligament reconstruction. His ACL research received the Best Paper Award from the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS), and he regularly lectures internationally on complex knee ligament surgery.
He has medically represented First Class and International rugby and football teams.
Research and teaching
Mr Thompson has contributed to numerous publications in the field of soft tissue knee surgery and is a regular faculty member on orthopaedic training courses.
He reviews for leading journals including the American Journal of Sports Medicine and is one of only a small number of UK orthopaedic surgeons invited to join the prestigious Australian Knee Society.

Having played elite level rugby, he understands the needs of the elite and amateur athlete. He plays contact sports, has a private pilots license and he shoots. Most of his spare time is dedicated to supporting his children's sporting interests.
