About
Mr Simon Thompson specialises in all aspects of knee surgery including acute ligament injuries. His surgical interests include ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) reconstruction, meniscal injuries, complex ligament reconstruction and joint replacement. He also has a special interest in anterior knee pain in athletes.
He is the lead for Undergraduate and Postgraduate education as well as the lead for research and the AO Trauma Centre fellowship programme at Chelsea.
He has contributed to many publications in the field of soft tissue knee surgery, and lectures regularly internationally on complex knee ligament reconstruction and played rugby at first-class level. Medically he has also represented both national and international rugby.
He is a regular faculty member on orthopaedic training courses. He reviews for peer-reviewed journals including the American Journal of Sports Medicine and is a member of the British Association for Surgery of the knee and one of only two UK surgeons to have been elected to the highly prestigious Australian Knee Society.

Personal interests
Having played elite level rugby, he understands the needs of the elite and amateur athlete. He plays contact sports, has a private pilots license and he shoots. Most of his spare time is dedicated to supporting his children's sporting interests.
