About
Mr Deshpande is a highly experienced orthopaedic surgeon with specialist expertise in hip and knee surgery. He has worked in Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery since completing his medical and postgraduate training in Nagpur, India, before moving to the UK to continue advanced surgical training.
After earning his medical degree and MS in Orthopaedic Surgery in India, he completed Basic Surgical Training in the UK, followed by Higher Surgical Training across the Midlands and Wales. As an Orthopaedic Registrar, he gained extensive experience in major centres including Coventry, the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham, Selly Oak, Wrexham, Cardiff and the RJAH Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry.
During this time, he developed a strong interest in lower limb arthroplasty and knee surgery.
He then completed a prestigious 6‑month Fellowship at St Joseph’s Hospital in London, Ontario, Canada, where he trained in computer‑assisted orthopaedic surgery under Dr David Chess, a pioneer in navigation‑guided surgery. Following this, he became a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at St Helens and Knowsley NHS Trust, where he established Merseyside’s first Computer Navigation Unit in 2006.
In January 2009, he was appointed as a full‑time Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at New Cross Hospital.
Mr Deshpande specialises in a wide range of hip and knee treatments, including:

His particular interests include computer‑navigated joint replacement, primary hip and knee replacement, partial knee replacement (Oxford unicompartmental and patellofemoral), sports knee injuries, ligament reconstruction, and post‑traumatic lower limb conditions.
