About
Mr Shalin Shaunak is an experienced Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in hand surgery and paediatric orthopaedics.
Born in Hammersmith and raised in Greater London and the Surrey/Middlesex area, Mr Shaunak attended the prestigious Tiffin School for Boys, achieving five A grades at A-level alongside an Advanced Extension Award in English Literature.
He graduated from St George’s Hospital Medical School in 2010 with merit, also completing an intercalated BSc (Hons). He then pursued a Master’s degree at Imperial College London, focusing on the use of emerging techniques and technologies in orthopaedic surgery. Mr Shaunak completed higher surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedics within the Kent, Surrey and Sussex (KSS) Deanery.
To further enhance his clinical expertise, he undertook prestigious post-CCT fellowships in:
Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery – Great Ormond Street Hospital
Hand and Wrist Surgery – Royal Berkshire Hospital
Complex Trauma and Reconstruction – St Peter’s Hospital
Mr Shaunak has authored 16 papers in peer-reviewed journals, contributed to three book chapters, and has presented at 13 national and international conferences. Much of his research focuses on comparing and refining surgical techniques in hand and wrist pathology, with a strong emphasis on innovation and evolving technologies.
He has a lasting passion for medical education and regularly presents at conferences and courses. He teaches on multiple FRCS preparation courses and actively mentors junior doctors, serving as both a clinical and educational supervisor. His teaching has received excellent feedback from colleagues, trainees, and patients alike.

Mr Shaunak has extensive experience in both trauma and elective hand and wrist surgery. His specialist procedures include:

He is also highly skilled in the management of complex trauma, including injuries of the upper and lower limbs, compartment syndrome, and soft tissue reconstruction, drawing on previous training in plastic surgery.
With a strong emphasis on patient-centred care, Mr Shaunak integrates the latest surgical techniques and evidence-based practice to deliver optimal outcomes. His approach includes a focus on rehabilitation and education, ensuring each patient receives tailored, comprehensive care.

Personal interests
Mr Shaunak’s current NHS practice is based at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospital. He lives in Surrey with his wife, who is a Consultant Oncologist in the region, and their young son. Outside of work, he enjoys reading and maintaining a fit and active lifestyle.
