About
Mr Milligan is a Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon with his NHS practice based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead. He graduated from Newcastle University Medical School in 2006 and completed his specialist surgical training within the Northern Deanery.
Throughout his career, Mr. Milligan has gained extensive experience in oncoplastic breast surgery. He was the first surgeon in the UK to introduce Radio‑frequency Identification (RFID) Tags for the localisation of breast tumours – an innovative technique on which he now teaches internationally.
Mr Milligan is committed to offering breast‑conserving surgery whenever clinically appropriate. He frequently uses partial breast reconstruction and breast reduction techniques to help patients avoid mastectomy. When mastectomy is necessary, he ensures patients receive comprehensive, personalised discussions about their breast reconstruction options.
He also has a specialist interest in complex revision surgery, caring for patients referred to him with concerns about breast appearance following previous cancer treatment.
Mr Milligan serves as the Gateshead representative on the regional Breast Tumour Pathway Board and was awarded the iWantGreatCare Certificate of Excellence in 2021 for delivering outstanding patient care.
He holds two weekly clinics at Nuffield Health Newcastle Hospital:
- Tuesday: One‑Stop Breast Clinic
- Wednesday: Cosmetic Surgery Clinic.
