About

Mr Kakwani studied medicine and then completed his post-graduation (Masters Degree) in Orthopaedics from the Mumbai University, India. He completed his MCh Orthopaedics degree from the University of Liverpool in 2006. 

Mr Kakwani completed his Higher Surgical Training at the Northern Deanery, gaining the FRCS (Orth) accreditation in 2012. He was fellowship trained in foot and ankle surgery at Bristol and Sheffield.

Mr Kakwani completed the AO Trauma Fellowship in Hannover, Germany in 2011. He was awarded BOFAS Travelling fellowship to the Sigvard Hansen Foot and Ankle Unit, Seattle in 2014. He is and has been a Clinical and Educational Supervisor for the Orthopaedic Specialty Trainees and teaches in a variety of regional and national courses.

Other interests

BOFAS (British Foot & Ankle Society) Scientific Committee member since 2019: Review the research proposals for NIHR etc, and abstracts submitted to BOA/BOFAS Conferences.

BOFAS Education Committee member from 2016 – 2019: I developed Foot & Ankle patient information sheet (Bunion (https://www.bofas.org.uk/Patient-Information/Hallux-valgus-bunion) and co-ordinated the Foot & Ankle section of Wikipaedics: which is now being developed by BOFAS.

Chairman ONTEA (OrthNorth Teaching and Education Association: 2020 - 2021 (Treasurer from 2018-2019) This association facilitates training of HENE trainees by organising funding from Industry to sponsor various orthopaedic courses around the region.

Awarded: ‘Trainer of the Year’ Health Education North-East 2016-7 & 2019-20.

National Orthopaedic ST3 recruitment Selections Design Group member since 2019. Interview Panel Member 2010-2018.

National Orthopaedic Specialist Advisory Committee (SAC) member since 2019.
