About
Mr Rajen Gupta completed his undergraduate training at Nottingham University. Following his qualification in 1994, he has had a broad exposure to neurosurgery and general medicine including acute and elderly care medicine. Mr Gupta subsequently undertook post-graduate ophthalmic training in Nottingham and Birmingham before completing a Fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. In 2008, Mr Gupta joined the Newcastle Eye Centre located at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. His specialist interests include cataract surgery, diabetic retinopathy, vascular disorders as well as age-related macular degeneration. He also has a keen interest in andragogy and its application in teaching ophthalmology. He has lectured internationally on how to teach cataract surgery and has written and published a textbook on the subject. He previously acted a regional Diabetic Eye Screening Program lead and is currently the Head of School Ophthalmology for overseeing ophthalmic training in the Northern deanery.
