About
Mr Oliver Blocker is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in knee and hip replacements.
In addition to first-time total and partial knee replacements he offers regenerative therapies for patients with knee arthritis.
He also performs hip replacements and his sub-speciality interest is in revision knee and hip replacements.
Education
He graduated in medicine from King's College, London in 2005, training at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital. He gained an MSc in Education from Cardiff University in 2013.
His fellowship experience included the Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre in Exeter, Southmead Major Trauma Centre in Bristol and the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham.
He was appointed to a substantive NHS post in in North Wales in 2020, following specialist training in Wales and at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, Oswestry.
Teaching
He is passionate about NHS research and education in trauma and orthopaedics. He is an honorary clinical senior lecturer at Bangor University and enjoys training the next generation of surgeons from Cardiff and Bangor Universities.
Approach to patient care
Mr Blocker's approach to patient care is to follow the results in arthroplasty that are associated with success and apply these to all patients.
He likes to find out what patients want to do after having joint replacement
and get them back to that, whether it is walking without pain or getting up a
mountain. He aims for patients to have
joint replacements that are ‘forgotten’.
Personal interests
Mr Blocker enjoys hybrid racing, yoga, surfing, hiking and cycling with his family.
Mr Blocker considers himself an extremely active person and knows the importance of a healthy active lifestyle and wants to help get his patients back to the activities that give them their quality of life.
