Mr Tumia completed his advanced specialist training in Aberdeen, where he was awarded an MD (Doctorate of Medicine) for his research in cartilage regeneration. His work has been extensively published and presented at national and international conferences.
In 2007, he completed a prestigious fellowship in complex hip and knee reconstruction at the renowned St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto.
His broad surgical expertise includes both primary and revision (re-do) joint replacement procedures, using a range of conventional and advanced implant technologies, such as ceramic components and hip resurfacing..
In knee surgery, Mr Tumia is skilled in performing various types of partial knee replacements, including patellofemoral (kneecap) and unicompartmental procedures. His practice also includes knee arthroscopy (keyhole surgery).
His past research has explored areas such as computer-guided hip resurfacing, recovery after hip resurfacing, wound infection, and knee cartilage and tissue engineering. He has presented and published his findings widely and was honoured with the Best Paper Award in Germany in 2009.
