Mr Mohammed Akbar Hussain

Mr Hussain achieved his medical degree from Imperial College London and subsequently came back home to Newcastle to complete his Neurosurgical training in the North East. Attaining his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in the Specialty of Neurosurgery he went on to specialise in Functional and Pain surgery at the Walton Centre in Liverpool. Mr Hussain has been a consultant in the NHS since 2018 at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.

Mr Hussain prides himself on being a true northerner and brings a personable touch to his practice making people feel at ease in what can be a stressful and anxiety-provoking time.

Mr Hussain’s NHS practice includes surgery for brain tumours in eloquent areas of the brain requiring awake surgery and/or Intra-operative monitoring, as well as surgery for Epilepsy and Neuromodulation.

The areas of expertise covered by Mr Hussain include ailments of the central and peripheral nervous systems. This included both brain and spine pathology. With expertise in neuromodulation (consultation only at Nuffield Health Newcastle) and pain surgery, Mr Hussain is able to help with arm and leg pain secondary to nerve damage but also provides consultations for cranial pathologies, including surgery for movement disorders and trigeminal Neuralgia.

Throughout his career, Mr Hussain has continued to be active in research and always looking to be at the forefront of innovation and integration of new technologies to help patient-centred care. Recent publications include the use of telemedicine to help with managing patients with DBS and the integration of new guidance software to optimise and refine therapy for patients.
