Mr Michael Stellakis is a highly experienced Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon based at Nuffield Health Warwickshire, specialising in advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery for a wide range of abdominal and bowel conditions. He is widely recognised for his precision in treating hernias, gallstones, and colorectal cancer, providing patients in Leamington Spa and the wider West Midlands with access to modern, minimally invasive treatments designed for faster recovery and minimal scarring. His practice is built on a foundation of clinical excellence and a commitment to utilising the most effective surgical innovations available today.
 
Appointed as a Consultant in 2005, Mr Stellakis has spent over two decades at the forefront of his field, pioneering surgical techniques in the Midlands. Notably, he set up the keyhole bowel cancer service at Warwick Hospital from scratch, leading the implementation of a state-of-the-art operating suite that has since benefited thousands of patients.
 
Mr Stellakis has a particular expertise in laparoscopic (keyhole) repair of hernias and sports groin injuries. Having performed over 2,500 TEP (Totally Extraperitoneal) hernia repair procedures - and with one of the highest volumes of laparoscopic hernia repairs in the UK over the past decade - he is recognised as one of the UK’s leading experts in this highly specialised technique, which allows for a significantly quicker return to daily activities compared to traditional open surgery. Whether a patient is seeking treatment for a complex inguinal hernia, painful gallstones requiring a cholecystectomy, or persistent acid reflux, Mr Stellakis ensures the highest standards of patient safety and long-term clinical outcomes.
 
Beyond general surgery, Mr Stellakis offers comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services for a variety of bowel-related concerns, including Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). He provides expert private colonoscopy and gastroscopy procedures for patients experiencing symptoms such as rectal bleeding, altered bowel habits, or chronic abdominal pain. As a core member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team for colorectal cancer, he is an expert in bowel cancer screening and surgery, as well as the management of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and diverticular disease. His approach is rooted in clear, empathetic communication, ensuring every patient feels fully informed throughout their diagnostic and treatment journey.
 
Mr Stellakis’s reputation extends deep into the professional medical community, where he is the “expert’s expert” serving as a Preceptor in Laparoscopic Surgery, actively training other consultant surgeons in advanced keyhole techniques. He was one of only 57 Consultant Surgeons in the UK selected for the national training programme to teach other consultants advanced keyhole techniques for bowel cancer. Having trained at institutes of excellence in London, Paris, and Strasbourg, he continues to shape the future of surgical standards as a Fellow of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland (ACPGBI) and the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons (ALSGBI).

Advancing the techniques and practice of laparoscopic colorectal cancer surgery and laparoscopic hernia surgery. Mr Stellakis also trains other Consultants and Surgeons in these procedures. Mr Stellakis is interested in driving up the standards of delivery of colonoscopy and endoscopy. He has introduced a number of advances that has allowed the hospital to do that.
