About

Mr Leong is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic surgeon with special interest in sports injuries, hip and knee surgeries. Mr Leong is also a surgical tutor for Royal College of Surgeons of England and a senior clinical lecturer at the University of Liverpool. He is the leading surgeon at Robotic hip and knee surgeon making history after being the first surgeon to perform robotic joint replacement surgery in Chester.

He achieved his qualifications from The University of Manchester and had undergone higher surgical orthopaedic training at the reputable Mersey Deanery. Mr Leong has undergone prestigious fellowships with high volume operating at Northumbria Healthcare NHS trust and Wrightington Hospital as well as various visiting fellowships. 

He was awarded the highly coveted “Outstanding Individual Achievement” award by Countess of Chester NHS Foundation trust for his dedication to quality improvement in services locally as well as regionally. He is currently the Lower limb orthopaedic Lead and Clinical lead in C2AI using artificial intelligence into helping with surgical prioritisation with ever growing waiting list.

He strongly believes in a holistic patient centred approach. His current practice consists of assessments and surgical management of sports knee injuries such as meniscal or ligamental injuries. He has special interest in joint preservation surgery, robotic surgeries, unicompartmental (partial) knee replacement, total hip and total knee replacements. He specialises in performing hip replacements through muscle (piriformis) sparing approach which will allows for enhanced recovery with improve function during post operative rehabilitation.


His research publication interests focused on infection prevention in joint replacement surgeries and enhanced knee rehabilitations following surgery. He is also the lead author at the publication of Revision Hip Complexity Classification (RHCC) along with Experts from British Hip Society to help with national level restructuring of complex hip revision surgery network. Mr Leong has also been a member of clinical expert group in developing new measures for Advancing Quality in hip and knee replacement surgeries in the North West region.

He is a firm believer that exercise plays an important role in building resilience as it helps maintain not only out physically health but also our mental and emotional health. Mr Leong enjoys tennis, cycling, swimming and running which led to participation in multiple triathlons.

He is a keen and qualified PADI Open water Scuba diver, Australia.
