About

Mr Jarnail Bal is a Consultant Neurosurgeon specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of spinal conditions. He cares for patients with neck and back pain, sciatica, slipped discs, spinal stenosis, nerve compression, and spinal injuries. He offers thorough assessment and a personalised treatment plan for every patient, using the latest diagnostic techniques and minimally invasive surgery where appropriate to help reduce pain, improve mobility, and support long-term wellbeing. His NHS practice is based at Barts Health NHS Trust.

Alongside his spinal work, Mr Bal leads the cerebrovascular surgery service at Barts Health. He has extensive experience managing brain aneurysms, arterio-venous malformations, cavernous malformations, brain tumours, and skull base conditions such as acoustic neuromas and meningiomas, as well as complex head injuries.

Mr Bal studied Medicine at the University of Manchester and completed an intercalated First Class Honours degree in Medical Physics at University College London. He undertook neurosurgical training in North London, followed by advanced fellowship training in Skull Base Surgery and a dedicated Cerebrovascular Fellowship at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge.
