About
Mr James Nutt is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust in Guildford, specialising in hip and knee replacement surgery and complex lower limb trauma. He has extensive experience in both primary and revision joint replacement, treating patients with joint pain, arthritis, and complications following previous surgery.
Mr Nutt provides care for patients with a wide range of hip and knee conditions, including arthritis, injury-related joint damage, and problems with existing implants. He offers a full range of treatments, from non-surgical management through to joint replacement surgery, tailoring his approach to each patient’s needs and goals.
In addition to standard hip and knee replacement procedures, he has particular expertise in managing complex cases, including peri-prosthetic fractures (breaks around existing joint replacements) and revision surgery. He uses a range of modern surgical techniques and implant systems to achieve the best possible outcomes and support long-term function and recovery.
Mr Nutt trained in orthopaedics across the Kent, Surrey and Sussex region and completed a specialist hip fellowship endorsed by the Royal College of Surgeons. He combines this training with broad experience across trauma and elective surgery, enabling him to manage both routine and complex cases effectively.
Alongside his clinical work, Mr Nutt is actively involved in improving patient care through service development and innovation, including work on theatre efficiency and implementation of national best practice guidelines. His academic interests include joint replacement surgery, trauma, and medical education, with multiple peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national and international level.
Mr Nutt is committed to providing high-quality, personalised care. He works closely with patients to understand their symptoms and explain treatment options clearly, helping them make informed decisions about their care and achieve the best possible recovery
