About

Mr James Nutt, MBChB, BSc (Hons), FRCS (Tr & Orth), is a full-time Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust in Guildford. He specialises in primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty, as well as complex lower-limb trauma. His practice also includes the management of complex peri-prosthetic injuries—repairing and revising fractures around existing implants—supported by extensive experience across a wide range of arthroplasty systems and fixation techniques.
 

After growing up locally in Leatherhead, he graduated with an MBChB from the University of Dundee, he completed a BMSc in Applied Orthopaedic Technology and was appointed to an Academic Foundation Program in Orthopaedics at the Royal National Orthopaedic hospital rotation in Birmingham. He was awarded the FRCS (Tr & Orth) in 2020 from the Royal College of Surgeons in England. 

His postgraduate training included rotation across the Kent, Surrey and Sussex deanery and a dedicated Hip Fellowship endorsed by the Royal College of Surgeons. He has since developed a comprehensive clinical portfolio, complemented by active involvement in service improvement, including theatre efficiency programmes, GIRFT implementation, and the adoption of the NICE trauma guideline.

Mr Nutt maintains a strong academic interest, having authored multiple peer-reviewed publications on arthroplasty, trauma, medical education, and professional well-being. He has presented nationally and internationally and remains committed to surgical education, leading regional hip and knee teaching, mentoring programmes, and outreach initiatives for widening participation.

His practice focuses on delivering high-quality, modern, and efficient patient care while contributing to the development of future orthopaedic surgeons.

Personal interests

Maintaining a specialist engineering workshop at home, servicing and repair of all aspects of tooling and equipment requirements for a family-run holiday leisure park in the heart of Surrey, a lifelong apprenticeship in workshop skills.

When not in the workshop, I can be found walking the Surrey hills with my wife and children.
