About
Mr Ian Carluke is a highly experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in hip and knee replacement surgery, including both primary procedures and complex revision operations. He also performs knee arthroscopy (keyhole surgery) to diagnose and treat a wide range of knee conditions.
Mr Carluke has been a consultant within the Trust since 2003, after completing his higher surgical training in the Northern Region. He undertook advanced specialist training in joint replacement surgery in Edinburgh and further developed his expertise through a trauma fellowship in the United States.
His clinical practice focuses on hip and knee arthroplasty, with particular interests in managing infected joint replacements and treating metastatic bone disease. He is actively involved in research into both primary and revision joint replacement surgery, contributing to ongoing improvements in patient care and outcomes.
Alongside his clinical work, Mr Carluke holds several senior leadership roles. He is the Clinical Lead for Primary and Revision Hip and Knee Replacement Surgery and for Metastatic Bone Disease. He also serves as an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
