About

Mr Haider Jan is a consultant gynaecologist and minimally invasive surgeon. He has been a consultant since 2013, leads the BSGE-accredited Endometriosis Centre at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, and is an honorary consultant at King's Fertility.

Most of Mr Jan's operating is robotic (da Vinci) or laparoscopic keyhole surgery. He has carried out more than 2,000 keyhole operations and, on average, more than 120 robotic operations a year, and his robotic operating lists run here at Parkside. Robotic surgery is his preferred approach for complex operations, such as removing large fibroids or deep endometriosis affecting the bowel, bladder and ureters.

He has a particular interest in conditions of the womb that affect fertility and pregnancy, including Asherman's syndrome, uterine septum and caesarean scar niche, which he has been repairing since 2013, and he also sees women with the full range of gynaecological problems.

At Parkside, Mr Jan performs the ultrasound scan himself during the consultation, so the findings can usually be discussed at the same visit. He sets out every reasonable option, including no surgery, and sends a detailed letter, usually within 30 minutes of the appointment. Consultations are in English or Arabic, and by video.

Mr Jan only sees adults.

Endometriosis, including deep endometriosis of the bowel, bladder and ureters; robotic (da Vinci) and laparoscopic keyhole surgery, including hysterectomy; large and complex fibroids, and adenomyosis; complex prolapse surgery, including sacrocolpopexy, sacrohysteropexy and hysterectomy with uterosacral ligament suspension; second opinions for women advised to have open surgery.

Hysteroscopic surgery for Asherman's syndrome, uterine septum, polyps and fibroids; caesarean scar niche (isthmocele) repair; surgery for recurrent miscarriage and before IVF, including hydrosalpinx; ovarian cysts; bleeding after the menopause; menopause and HRT.

Mr Jan has published more than 40 peer-reviewed papers, including randomised controlled trials, and a book chapter. His awards include the AAGL's Carlo Romanini Award for the best abstract on endometriosis (2014) and presentation prizes from the BSGE and the British Society of Gynaecological Imaging.
