About

Mr Gurpal Toor is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Nuffield Health Warwickshire Hospital, specialising in advanced cataract surgery and the comprehensive management of glaucoma. With over 20 years of clinical excellence, Mr Toor has dedicated his career to restoring vision and protecting eye health through a combination of surgical precision and innovative technology. He is widely recognised across Leamington Spa, Warwick, and Stratford-upon-Avon for his commitment to patient safety and his ability to deliver life-changing visual outcomes. His professional standing is rooted in his academic background, having graduated with a double distinction from Guy’s, King’s & St Thomas’ Medical School (King’s College London) in 2004. During his tenure, he was awarded the IFMSA Research Award, the Alan Pentacoste Prize, and the Ethicon Foundation Award, alongside the prestigious BCLA Dallos Award and an Eyesight International Fellowship.

Following his initial medical training and achieving Membership of the Royal College of Physicians, Mr Toor completed two highly specialised fellowships in complex cataract and glaucoma surgery at the world-renowned Bristol Eye Hospital and the Western Eye Hospital in London. He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Cataract and Refractive Surgery, having trained with some of the industry’s most renowned international experts. As a specialist in high-volume cataract surgery, Mr Toor is an expert in the use of premium intraocular lenses (IOLs). He offers bespoke surgical plans, including the use of Multifocal and Toric lenses, to correct astigmatism and presbyopia, helping many patients achieve total spectacle independence. His clinical results are among the best in the UK; his complication rate for Posterior Capsule Rupture (PCR) stands at a remarkable 0.3%, significantly lower than the national benchmark of 1.1%. This data-driven approach ensures that even the most complex cataract cases are handled with the highest degree of safety.

In the field of glaucoma, Mr Toor is a pioneer of Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS). He provides his patients in Warwickshire with modern alternatives to traditional eye drops and invasive surgery, utilising state-of-the-art micro-stents such as the iStent and Hydrus. Having previously reworked the glaucoma department in South Warwickshire, a project commended nationally by NHS Improvement (England), he brings an award-winning standard of care to his private practice. His expertise also extends to Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) and the management of ocular hypertension, ensuring a holistic approach to preserving long-term sight. This specialist knowledge is further enriched by international experience, including work in stem cell research and corneal transplantation in Hyderabad, India.

Now operating through Warwick Eye and the Stratford Cataract Clinic, Mr Toor’s practice is the distillation of two decades of ophthalmic expertise. As a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, he remains at the forefront of surgical research and innovation. By implementing the latest refractive technology and maintaining a "patient-first" philosophy, he ensures that every individual receives a personalised treatment plan tailored specifically to their unique lifestyle and visual goals.
