About
Mr Sianos is double board-certified in Trauma & Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation Medicine, having completed his training in Poland. He was awarded a higher medical degree by the Silesian Medical University for his research on wrist fractures.
His international training in hand surgery began in Poland and Germany, followed by a prestigious scholarship at the Christine M. Kleinert Institute in Louisville, Kentucky, USA. He later obtained the European Diploma in Hand Surgery in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Mr Sianos has served as a Consultant Hand Surgeon in the Department of Trauma and Orthopaedics at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary since 2005. His subspecialty interest is wrist reconstructive surgery, particularly in the context of rheumatoid arthritis, degenerative osteoarthritis, and post-traumatic sequelae, including scaphoid-related problems. He has extensive experience in managing wrist fractures and their complications, having operated on over 1,000 patients with such injuries.
He has acted as principal investigator in national and European studies on Dupuytren’s contracture and has over 30 years’ clinical experience in treating the disease. His practice encompasses the full spectrum of adult hand and wrist pathology. He pioneered the use of ultrasound in all his clinics, both NHS and private, enabling real-time diagnosis, guided joint injections, and minor procedures.
Mr Sianos performed the first-ever total wrist replacement in Stornoway, a landmark moment for healthcare in the Western Isles. Read more about this pioneering procedure:
Special interests
Mr Sianos is interested in technological advances in medicine and new treatment options available for his patient. To that extend Mr Sianos has served as a Principal investigator on POINT X European multicenter (25 centres) open label Xiapex trial on collagenase treatment for Dupuytren’s disease (2010-2013). Glasgow Royal Infirmary was the only Scottish centre involved in the study.
In collaboration with the NHS Western Isles, Mr Sianos developed a unique Hand Surgery Video Clinic based on the Attend Anywhere platform aimed at efficient use of the resources, a patient-centred service, and cost-effectiveness. This project has positively transformed the hand surgery assessment pathway for the Western Isles patients, and his team who were involved in developing this project won a national award for rural and remote care providers.
