About
Mr Eric Nicholls is an Australian-bred and trained Senior Consultant Paediatric Surgeon, and has been practicing since 1997. He has a special interest in neonatal, and gastro-intestinal surgery, as well as inguinoscrotal surgery, and he provides vascular access for long-term parenteral nutrition or chemotherapy.
He performs appendicectomies, cholecystectomies and fundoplications laparoscopically when appropriate, and he carries out many Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomies for assisted nutrition. The more common neonatal conditions he manage include Hirschsprung’s disease, malrotation, atresias of the oesophagus, and bowel, and necrotising enterocolitis. Each year, he prepares 3 to 5 medico-legal reports.
He is also an Educational Lead and an Honorary Senior Lecturer with The St George’s Hospital Medical School, University of London. He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate medical students on a weekly basis. He also performs selection interviews, and examines and lectures medical students several times each year. He is an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons, and he is the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons representative on the Intercollegiate Board of Examiners. He represents the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons at the BMA Paediatric subcommittee meetings, as well as at the surgery subcommittee meetings. He is a Senior Journal Article Reviewer with the Journal of Paediatric Surgery and a visiting lecturer at Imperial College London.
He was previously the chief examiner in paediatric surgery, council member of RCS and chair of Children’s Surgery Forum.
