About

Mr Deep J. Malde is a Consultant General, Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic (HPB) Surgeon who specialises in benign and malignant conditions of the Pancreas, Liver and Gallbladder. After completing his Basic and Specialist Surgical training in Manchester, he undertook Fellowships in Hepatobiliary Surgery and Transplantation in Leeds and Cambridge before being appointed as a Consultant Surgeon in Leicester. He specialises in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery for gallstones (Cholecystectomy) and performs over 300 gallbladder operations annually.

In addition to laparoscopic gallbladder surgery, he also carries out major laparoscopic and open liver and pancreas surgery, predominantly for cancer. He is currently the MDT Chairman for Liver, Pancreas and Gallbladder cancers in Leicester.Mr Malde practises at the Nuffield Health Leicester Hospital where he consults each week.

Other interests include management of benign HPB conditions like liver and pancreatic cysts in addition to pancreatitis (and its complications). He also carries out diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures like Gastroscopies (OGD) and Endoscopic Ultrasound Scans (EUS). He has also helped pioneer Robotic HPB Surgery in Leicester.

Personal interests

Deep enjoys travelling and having grown up in Kenya he regularly goes hiking and climbing.  Since being involved in the annual HPB Charity bike ride over the last 3 years, he has taken up cycling. He also enjoys regular skiing.

Mr Malde has published in peer reviewed journals on various topics including acute pancreatitis, colorectal liver metastases, pancreatic cancer surgery in the elderly, pancreatoduodenal trauma, laparoscopic bile duct exploration and gallbladder surgery.
