About

Dan is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Nuffield Health Leicester Hospital. He’s a fellowship-trained hip and knee surgeon, specialising in joint replacement surgery (hip and knee replacements), complex hip procedures and revision surgery for patients with failed or infected implants.

Dan’s NHS practice is based at University Hospitals of Leicester, where he’s part of the regional complex arthroplasty team and the orthopaedic infection team. He leads the local infection MDT and helped develop the Leicester Enhanced Arthroplasty Pathway to support faster recovery and better outcomes. He’s actively involved in research and regularly publishes in the orthopaedic field. Dan also has a Master’s in teaching and learning for healthcare professionals, and contributes to national committees, meetings and training courses.

His special interests include:

  • Total hip replacement
  • Partial and Total knee replacement
  • Revision and trauma hip surgery
  • Prosthetic joint infection and MDT-led care

Mr Howard also offers robot-assisted hip and knee replacements using Mako SmartRobotics™, helping ensure precise implant positioning and soft tissue balancing for optimal function.
