About
Mr Charles Evans is the Head of Gastrointestinal Surgery at the University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. As an experienced consultant colorectal and general surgeon, he is a national leader and international trainer in robotic surgery, specialising in the treatment of cancer and non-cancerous bowel conditions plus abdominal wall and groin hernias.
Mr Evans undertook basic surgical training in London and was awarded an MD from the University of London following research into colorectal cancer and minimally invasive surgery. He undertook higher surgical training at the Oxford Deanery following which he was selected for the National Ethicon Fellowship in Advanced Colorectal Surgery. He completed his training with a further fellowship in complex colorectal surgery at St Mark's Hospital, London.
Mr Evans is the current chair of The Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland (ACPGBI) robotic committee working towards national robotic training and research. He is a proctor in robotic surgery teaching consultant surgeons in the UK, Europe and Africa.
He has expertise in the treatment of perianal conditions from haemorrhoids to fistulas and fissures. He offers minimally invasive therapies for the treatment of pilonidal sinus (endoscopic pilonidal sinus treatment - EPSiT), anal fistula (video-assisted anal fistula treatment - VAAFT) as well haemorrhoidal artery Ligation operation (HALO) for haemorrhoids.
Mr Evans has paediatric surgical experience through working in a specialist paediatric surgical department in Oxford and collaborations with Birmingham Children’s Hospital. He performs general paediatric surgery including clinics and day case procedures.

Research
Mr Charles Evans was awarded a University of London MD in 2008 following two years research investigating immune suppression caused by colorectal cancer, its influence upon survival and whether it is reversed by surgical resection. He also studied whether the impairment of tumour immunity following the stress of surgery was reduced in minimally invasive procedures such as laparoscopic surgery.
Charles has continued to have an active role in surgical research. He has built links with the University of Warwick, has received research grants form the Royal College of Surgeons, and continues to have papers published as well as presenting work at national and international meetings.
