About
Mr Gurney is a Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and is dually qualified in medicine and dentistry.
Having graduated in Medicine from the University of Edinburgh in 2002, Mr Gurney completed house officer jobs in Edinburgh followed by surgical training in the North East of England, working in the fields of Accident and Emergency, Upper GI Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Intensive Care Medicine. Mr Gurney specialised in Maxillofacial surgery completing his postgraduate dental degree at Kings College London working as a Maxillofacial Registrar in several London units.
Mr Gurney then completed 5 years of specialist OMFS training in Surrey and Sussex, rotating between Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford and Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead. He also spent time in cleft and craniofacial units including Alder Hey Children's Hospital, Liverpool and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London.
On completion of his specialist training Mr Gurney undertook a further highly regarded international fellowship in Facial Trauma and Orthognathic (corrective jaw) surgery at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Australia in 2015/2016. Mr Gurney was appointed as a Consultant OMF Surgeon in 2016.
Mr Gurney is a Consultant at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford where he is Educational Supervisor for the department specialist trainees and is a core member of the regional specialist skin cancer multidisciplinary network. He has full practising privileges at Guildford Nuffield Hospital and also attends a number of private dental practices in Surrey and Hampshire. He is a director of Surrey Implant Services, also based at the Guildford Nuffield Hospital.
