Mr Ashraf Awad

Ashraf Awad is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at Goring Hall Hospital.

Mr Awad specialises in hip and knee replacement surgery, revision surgery, and the treatment of fractures around existing joint replacements.

Since 2026, Mr Awad has worked as a substantive Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. There, he leads the hip fracture service and provides trauma and emergency orthopaedic care.

He also holds national roles, including membership of the UK National Core Training selection panel and examiner status at the University of Manchester Medical School.

Education and experience

Mr Awad qualified in medicine from Cairo University in 1995 and completed a master’s degree in Orthopaedics there in 2002.

He moved to the UK to continue his surgical training, gaining MRCS in 2008, European Board of Orthopaedics and Traumatology accreditation in 2014, and the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Trauma and Orthopaedics in 2016.

He went on to complete two specialist fellowships in complex hip surgery: a lower limb arthroplasty and young adult hip fellowship at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in 2018, followed by advanced primary and revision hip fellowship at Southmead Hospital, Bristol, later the same year.

Mr Awad has held consultant posts across the NHS, including at Torbay Hospital, Croydon University Hospital, Wythenshawe Hospital, Gloucestershire hospitals and York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals, before joining University Hospitals Sussex. Across these roles, he built experience in hip and knee surgery and periprosthetic fracture management.
