About

I'm a highly experienced

consultant colorectal surgeon and I've been based at Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley, West Midlands since 2006.

I provide both planned (elective) and emergency general surgery, with specialist expertise in

colorectal cancer care.My clinical work includes running fast‑track 2‑week‑wait clinics, performing

colonoscopies, and carrying out both laparoscopic (keyhole) and open bowel cancer operations.

Education

After completing my early surgical training, I undertook research into the genetics of cancer at the University of Birmingham, later continuing this work at the University of Liverpool, where I was awarded an MD degree.

I went on to complete higher surgical training through the All Wales national training programme, gaining my CCST after passing a further specialist fellowship in general surgery with a colorectal focus.

Leadership

I have held several senior leadership roles, including colorectal cancer lead, peer reviewer for colorectal services, and clinical service lead for general surgery.

I've been closely involved in developing new ways to improve patient care and outcomes.

I also served as President of the Stourbridge Ileostomy Society, a position he was awarded after 15 years of dedicated involvement.

Research

Mr Kawesha undertook a 2-year period of research during training and was awarded an MD on Molecular Prognostic Markers on Ductal Pancreatic Cancer. 

The genetic basis of this disease was studied in a laboratory with the largest series of clinical data at the time. He has been a participant in national trials, e.g., FOXTROT, CREST trials. 

Local audits in the hospital are regularly undertaken with some international presentations such as pilonidal sinus surgery in South Korea and giant colorectal polyps in USA.
