About

Mr Amit Patel is an experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in hip and knee conditions. His main areas of expertise include hip and knee replacement surgery, knee reconstruction, and modern orthopaedic techniques.

He treats a wide range of problems such as hip and knee arthritis, sports injuries, ligament tears and cartilage damage. Mr Patel offers both surgical and non‑surgical treatments, depending on what best suits each patient.

Known for his clear and reassuring communication style, he takes an evidence‑based approach and focuses on personalised care. He works closely with patients to create treatment plans that reduce pain, improve mobility, and support long‑term joint health.

Education and Training

Mr Patel graduated from Southampton Medical School in 2003. He completed his foundation and internship training at Southampton General Hospital, where he gained early experience in trauma and orthopaedic care.

He joined the Southampton Teaching Hospital surgical training programme and developed broad experience across trauma and orthopaedic surgery. In 2006, he achieved Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) and completed his core surgical training in 2007.

Mr Patel then undertook Higher Surgical Training on the prestigious Stoke/Oswestry Orthopaedic Training Programme, known for producing leading specialists in hip and knee surgery.

In 2013, he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS Orth), demonstrating expertise at the highest level of orthopaedic training.

To further specialise, he completed an advanced Fellowship at the Exeter Knee Reconstruction Unit, a well‑respected national centre for knee replacement and reconstruction surgery.

Following his fellowship, Mr Patel was appointed as a Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedics at The Royal Stoke University Hospital, where he manages complex hip and knee conditions, both elective and trauma‑related.

Mr Patel has a particular interest in modern hip and knee replacement techniques, including patient‑specific and computer‑assisted surgery, designed to improve accuracy, recovery and long‑term outcomes.
