About

Mr Alfredo Tonsi is a highly regarded Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon, specialising in the surgical management of inflammatory bowel disease, bowel cancer, and benign proctological conditions, which encompass complex anal fistula, hemorrhoids, anal pain, and rectal prolapse.

His surgical repertoire extends to both laparoscopic and open abdominal wall hernia procedures, including those for inguinal hernias.

Mr Tonsi completed his Higher Surgical Training in London and the Southwest Thames region, receiving comprehensive instruction in advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques.

He subsequently pursued additional specialist training in complex anal fistula and inflammatory bowel surgery at esteemed institutions such as St. Mark’s Hospital, St. George's, and St. Thomas' Hospital in London.

Throughout his career, Mr Tonsi has amassed considerable experience in minimally invasive approaches to bowel cancer, ileo-anal pouch surgery, complex anal fistula repair, and deep endometriosis.

In addition to his clinical and research accomplishments, Mr Tonsi is recognised nationally as a trainer in colonoscopy, having achieved accreditation from the JAG Endoscopy Training System.

Currently, Mr Tonsi holds the position of Surgical Lead for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. In this role, he works in close collaboration with the IBD dietetic team and his gastroenterology colleagues to enhance the preoperative care of patients with Crohn's disease. Moreover, he contributes to the academic community as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Brighton and Sussex Medical School.
