About

Mr Abir Bhattacharyya is an experienced Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Surgeon with more than 25 years of consultant‑level practice in both the NHS and private sector. He was appointed as a Consultant ENT Surgeon at Whipps Cross University Hospital (Barts Health) in 1997, where he has also held several senior leadership roles, including Associate Director of Medical Education, Royal College Surgical Tutor and Deputy Director of Medical Education.

Mr Bhattacharyya specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of ENT conditions in adults and children, with particular expertise in otology (ear disorders), hearing loss, sinus disease, voice disorders, and paediatric ENT. His clinical practice includes advanced surgical procedures such as stapedectomy for otosclerosis, ossiculoplasty, bone‑anchored hearing aids, cholesteatoma surgery and functional endoscopic sinus surgery. He also runs multidisciplinary voice clinics and has extensive experience in laryngeal framework surgery to improve vocal function.

One-Stop Ear Clinic

At all clinic locations, Mr Abir Bhattacharyya works alongside his team of experienced senior audiologists to provide comprehensive hearing assessments for adults and children. Diagnostic test results are available during the consultation whenever possible, allowing prompt discussion of findings and treatment options.

This multidisciplinary approach reduces the need for multiple appointments and supports an efficient, patient-centred One-Stop Ear Clinic service.

Mr Bhattacharyya completed his Master of Surgery in Otolaryngology in Bombay before undertaking higher surgical training in the UK at leading centres including the Institute of Laryngology and Otology at the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital. He holds multiple prestigious qualifications, including MBBS, MS, FRCS, FACS and FRCS (ORL‑HNS).

Alongside his clinical work, Mr Bhattacharyya is widely recognised for his contributions to medical education and research. He has edited several postgraduate textbooks in ENT and authored a highly commended textbook for GPs and undergraduates. He also serves on the Editorial Board and as a Trustee of the Journal of Laryngology and Otology and is a member of the Court of Examiners for the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
