About

Dr Alway is an experienced consultant cardiologist who specialises in the diagnosis and management of inherited cardiac conditions and heart failure. He is an expert in cardiac devices and regularly implants pacemakers, loop recorders, implantable cardioverter defibrillators and cardiac resynchronisation therapy devices.

Dr Alway is passionate about caring for individuals affected by genetic heart disease. He uses state-of-the-art diagnostics such as ambulatory ECGs, echocardiogram, cardiac CT, MRI and genetic testing to provide individualised risk stratification and personalised care. Dr Alway also understands the importance of caring for families affected by inherited cardiac conditions and provides comprehensive family screening services.

Dr Alway qualified from University College London in 2012 with a Distinction, along with a BSc in Physiology. He trained in several prestigious centres including Harefield and Hammersmith hospitals, before undertaking speciality training in Brighton and Sussex. Dr Alway remains actively involved with education and research. He is also involved in local community work and co-chairs the Cardiomyopathy UK Sussex Support Group. In his spare time he enjoys playing tennis, padel and golf.

Research

Dr Alway has numerous publications in the field of cardiology. He was the first author of a review article on the landscape and future direction of inherited cardiac conditions services, published in the British Medical Bulletin. He has also co-authored papers on the cross-over between cardiomyopathy and sarcoidosis, and the link between sepsis and cardiomyopathy.
