About
Dr Tanwar qualified from Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospital Medical School in 2001 and completed his specialist Gastroenterology training in London and trained at numerous centres of excellence including University College Hospital, St. Mary’s Hospital, King’s College Hospital and the Royal Free Hospital.
Dr Tanwar is Endoscopy Clinical Lead and the MAC Gastroenterology clinical lead at The Holly Hospital where he leads the endoscopy unit and gastroenterology services. In addition, he is the Endoscopy Clinical Lead at Barts Health NHS Trust, Whipps Cross University Hospital and an Honorary Associate Professor at the UCL Institute for Liver & Digestive Health. In the penultimate year of his specialist registrar training (2009)
Dr Tanwar was selected in open national competition for the London Deanery Advanced Hepatology Fellowship.
Dr Tanwar has published widely in peer reviewed international journals and textbooks and have published more than 40 articles on a broad range of subjects such as diagnostic testing, HPB medicine, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, anaemia and gastrointestinal malignancy.
Special interests
During his specialist training, Dr Tanwar undertook a 4-year PhD research fellowship within the division of medicine at University College London.
He has published widely in peer reviewed international journals and textbooks with more than 30 publications to his credit on a broad range of subjects such as diagnostic testing, HPB medicine, gastrointestinal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, anaemia and gastrointestinal malignancy. He currently serves on the editorial board for several gastroenterology and hepatology journals.
Alongside his expertise in minimally invasive diagnostic techniques, Dr Tanwar also performs complex endoscopic procedures such as enteral stenting and ERCP using advanced endoscopic techniques that avoid the need for formal surgery.
