About
Dr Shyam Menon is a highly regarded Consultant Gastroenterologist who specialises in hepatobiliary and pancreatic medicine (conditions affecting the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts and pancreas) and advanced interventional endoscopy (specialist camera‑based procedures used to diagnose and treat digestive diseases). He works at Heartlands Hospital in the NHS and also sees private patients at Nuffield Health Wolverhampton Hospital.
He trained in the West Midlands and completed in‑depth research on how gender influences the development of Barrett’s oesophagus and oesophageal cancer, earning an MD (Doctor of Medicine) from the University of Birmingham. During his training, he also gained further qualifications in Epidemiology and Nutritional Medicine. He later completed advanced fellowship training in hepatobiliary endoscopy in Liverpool.
Dr Menon has previously been the Clinical Lead for Gastroenterology at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust and contributes to regional healthcare planning through his role on the West Midlands Clinical Senate Council.
Alongside his general work in gastroenterology and hepatology, Dr Menon has built a strong clinical and academic profile in hepatobiliary and pancreatic medicine. He is actively involved in research, teaching and training, and has been awarded Fellowships by both the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) and the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA).
Dr Menon treats a wide range of digestive and liver conditions, including acid reflux, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), liver disease, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and gastrointestinal cancers. His specialist interests include pancreatic disorders and bile duct diseases
