About
Dr Sandeep Hothi is a Consultant Cardiologist with expertise in diagnosing and managing adult heart conditions plus advanced cardiac imaging. He is internationally accredited in cardiac MRI (EACVI and SCMR), echocardiography (BSE), and cardiac CT (SCCT), and provides detailed, evidence-based assessments for chest pain, valve disease, breathlessness, and heart failure.
He trained at the University of Cambridge, earning First-Class honours (BA), medical degrees (MB BChir), and a PhD in cardiology, funded by a competitive MRC Capacity Building Studentship. He received multiple academic prizes from Trinity College, Cambridge, and was an Official Fellow and College Lecturer in Physiology at Murray Edwards College.
Dr Hothi completed postgraduate training at top UK centres including Addenbrooke’s, Papworth, and the Royal Brompton, and is now based at New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton.
He is co-author of a leading textbook on echocardiography and has contributed to national medical texts. A former BSE examiner and Trustee, he is also Principal Investigator in multiple clinical trials, co-supervises PhD students, and was awarded an NIHR Health and Care Research Scholarship (2023–2025). He holds an Honorary Associate Clinical Professorship at the University of Birmingham.

Research
Dr Hothi is a research-active clinical cardiologist with over 20 publications in international journals. He completed his undergraduate BA(Hons) degree with 1st class Honours at the University of Cambridge in Natural Sciences – Physiology, followed by undergraduate medical degrees (MB BChir) at the University of Cambridge (2004).
He was successfully awarded a competitive Medical Research Council funded PhD studentship leading to the award of PhD at the University of Cambridge (2006 – 2009). This was followed by a further postdoctoral period of research at the University of Leicester during his higher medical training.
He has supervised a number of students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels at the University of Cambridge was also an Official Fellow and College Lecturer at New Hall, the University of Cambridge where he taught undergraduate students physiology.
He has been invited to
review manuscripts for international journals. In addition, he has enjoyed a
successful output in writing for medical textbooks, and to date has authored 13
chapters in two leading textbooks. His research interests are in heart valve disease,
cardiac arrhythmias and heart failure.
