Dr Owen trained in Cardiff, Newcastle, Liverpool and Dundee before commencing his consultant post in 1997.
Clinical and research interests include pregnancy ultrasound, fetal growth assessment, premature birth and multiple pregnancy. Dr Owen has published over sixty research papers plus several book chapters. He is the editor of a popular textbook in obstetrics and gynaecology and is an editor of the European Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Teaching responsibilities include being the current Training Programme Director for obstetrics and gynaecology, West of Scotland Deanery. National responsibilities include Vice Chair of the Guideline Committee, RCOG and recent member of the RCOG Council (2001-2007) and RCM council (2003-2005).

Philip was born in 1962 and is married with three children. He enjoys rugby (from the safety of the touchline) and contemporary fiction.
