Dr Nagui Gendi

Dr Nagui Gendi,  is a highly experienced Consultant Rheumatologist who provides specialist assessment and treatment for the full spectrum of inflammatory, autoimmune and degenerative rheumatic diseases at Nuffield Health Brentwood Hospital. He has been practising since 1977, bringing nearly five decades of clinical expertise to his patients.

Dr Gendi has extensive experience in managing conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, inflammatory muscle disease, metabolic bone disease, fibromyalgia, spine disorders, soft‑tissue rheumatism, and work‑related upper‑limb disorders. He has a particular specialist interest in connective tissue diseases, including lupus and other multisystem rheumatic disorders.

He is proficient in musculoskeletal ultrasound, which he uses to support accurate diagnosis and guide treatment. His clinical practice also includes a wide range of interventional procedures such as trigger‑point injections, sacroiliac joint injections, and facet joint injections.

Dr Gendi completed his medical training at the Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University, Egypt, graduating in 1977, and later obtained a Master of Science in Internal Medicine in 1984. He subsequently trained in leading UK centres, including the Royal Free Hospital, London, where he developed his early interest in connective tissue diseases, and the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford, where he trained in inflammatory joint disease, rehabilitation and sports medicine.

He has been a Consultant Rheumatologist at Basildon & Thurrock University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust since 1995, where he also contributes to service development and outpatient leadership. He runs specialist clinics including connective tissue disease, combined rheumatology/orthopaedics, and paediatric rheumatology, the latter of which he has delivered for around 20 years.

Dr Gendi is actively involved in research and education. He has published on mixed connective tissue disease, inflammatory arthritis, Parvovirus arthritis, and outcomes of elbow surgery in rheumatoid arthritis, and he contributes to multicentre studies. He also collaborates widely with colleagues across the region and participates in training future rheumatologists.

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, and a member of the British Society for Rheumatology and the British Medical Association, reflecting his commitment to maintaining the highest standards of clinical practice.
