Dr Mazhar Ajaz

Dr Mazhar Ajaz is a Consultant Oncologist with a specialist focus on neuro-oncology (brain and spine cancer) and melanoma (skin cancer). He qualified in medicine from the University of Southampton in 1997 and went on to train in cancer medicine across Bristol, Guildford, and London between 2000 and 2010, completing a PhD at the Institute of Cancer Research in 2010.

He has served as a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Surrey and currently holds dual roles as Honorary Consultant Clinical Oncologist at the Royal Surrey County Hospital and Consultant Oncologist at St George’s Hospital in South London, where he works within the Ambulatory Oncology Care Unit (AOCU).

Dr Ajaz is also President of Story FMR (Funding Melanoma Research), an initiative supporting pioneering research at the University of Surrey, Royal Surrey County Hospital, and St Luke’s Cancer Centre in Guildford.

His research spans radiotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and chemotherapy combinations, with a strong emphasis on treatments that offer real-world clinical benefit. Widely published, his recent work explores radiation therapy in melanoma and combination approaches to improve outcomes for skin cancer patients.
