About
Dr Putchakayala is an experienced Consultant Rheumatologist with specialist expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of arthritis, osteoporosis, inflammatory joint disease, and musculoskeletal conditions. He completed his specialist rheumatology training in Manchester and has been a Consultant Rheumatologist at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust since 2008.
He provides both general rheumatology clinics and a range of specialist services, working closely with orthopaedic colleagues in combined hand, foot, and ankle clinics. He also runs a high‑risk obstetric rheumatology clinic, supporting patients with rheumatic conditions during pregnancy, and a dedicated musculoskeletal ultrasound clinic to aid accurate diagnosis and targeted treatment.
Dr Putchakayala played a key role in developing osteoporosis assessment and treatment pathways at Mid Cheshire Hospitals, helping to improve early diagnosis, fracture prevention, and long‑term bone health care for patients.
Alongside his clinical work, he has a strong commitment to medical education and training. He is currently the Deputy Training Programme Director for Rheumatology at Mersey Deanery, supporting the development of future rheumatology specialists.

Dr Putchakayala earned his MSc with honours from the University of Manchester after completing a research project in treatment adherence in Lupus Patients.
