About
Following a shoulder injury, Mrs Doughty is currently not operating. She offers a full one-stop diagnostic service for all breast conditions, including mammograms, ultrasound and biopsies, etc. If you are subsequently diagnosed with a condition requiring surgery, Julie will refer you to one of the other surgeons at Nuffield with whom she works closely.
Julie completed her training in General Surgery with a Special Interest in Breast and was subsequently appointed Senior Lecturer, then Consultant Breast Surgeon at the Western Infirmary, Glasgow in 1998. In 2012, the Breast unit transferred to Gartnaval Hospital, where she currently works as an NHS consultant.
She has always been passionate about the management of Breast Cancer and was awarded her MD Thesis from the University of Liverpool on the Regional Management of Locally Advanced and Recurrent Breast Cancer. Although a busy NHS Consultant, she was appointed a Trustee of the Association of Breast Surgeons (ABS) in 1998 and worked as a trustee until 2023.
She has held many senior National positions, including Chair of the Education and Training Committee. She was appointed President of ABS from 2019 to 2021, during which she developed guidance for the management of breast cancer patients during COVID.

She has recently written the chapter ‘Breast Assessment, the MDT and the role of the Breast Surgeon in Multi-Modal Care’ for publication in the Oxford Textbook of Breast Cancer.
