Dr Dipak Mukherjee

Dr Dipak Mukherjee (MBBS, MD, FRCP) is a highly experienced Consultant in General (Internal) Medicine and Respiratory Medicine, practising at Nuffield Health Brentwood Hospital. He has been a practising physician since 1987, with more than three decades of specialist expertise in the diagnosis and management of complex respiratory and general medical conditions.

Dr Mukherjee specialises in a wide range of respiratory disorders, including lung disease, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), chronic cough, breathlessness, tuberculosis, lung cancer, pleural disease, and chest infections. He is also highly skilled in advanced respiratory procedures such as bronchoscopy, medical thoracoscopy, endobronchial cryotherapy, and EBUS (endobronchial ultrasound)—a tertiary service he leads for the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre.

He has been a Consultant Chest Physician at Basildon University Hospital since 2001, and has worked at Nuffield Health Brentwood Hospital since 2002. Within the NHS, he has served as clinical lead for COPD, pleural disease, tuberculosis, oxygen therapy, and EBUS, working closely with cardiothoracic surgeons on complex respiratory cases.

Dr Mukherjee trained in Manchester, including at the renowned Heart Lung Centre at Wythenshawe Hospital, before taking up his consultant post. His extensive experience includes respiratory diagnostics, interventional pulmonology, and the management of both acute and chronic respiratory disease.

His clinical excellence has been recognised nationally. He received the National Hospital Doctor Award for COPD in 2005, as well as a Chief Executive’s Gold Award for outstanding clinical commitment.

Dr Mukherjee is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and an active member of the British Thoracic Society. He regularly lectures at national and international conferences and trains consultants across the region in advanced respiratory procedures, including EBUS, thoracoscopy, bronchoscopy and thoracic ultrasound.

At Nuffield Health Brentwood Hospital, he provides comprehensive care for patients with respiratory and general medical problems, offering both diagnostic expertise and advanced interventional treatments. He is known for his clear communication, patient‑centred approach, and long‑standing dedication to high‑quality clinical care.
