About
Dr Rodrigues is an experienced Consultant Clinical Neurophysiologist and Clinical Epileptologist, specialising in the diagnosis and investigation of nerve, muscle and brain disorders.
Clinical neurophysiology expertise
He provides expert assessment and a wide range of neurophysiological tests.
Nerve conduction studies (NCS) and electromyography (EMG)
These tests are essential in diagnosing conditions affecting the nerves and muscles.
- NCS – involves gentle electrical stimulation of peripheral nerves to assess nerve function. This test helps diagnose conditions such as nerve compression, neuropathies and nerve injuries.
- EMG – evaluates muscle activity using a fine needle electrode. It is essential for diagnosing muscle disorders, nerve damage and neuromuscular conditions.
He has extensive experience assessing symptoms such as:
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Ulnar nerve compression at the elbow
- Peripheral neuropathy
- Cervical radiculopathy (nerve root compression in the neck).
Injection therapy
Dr Rodrigues provides injection therapy for dystonia, a movement disorder causing involuntary muscle contractions.
EEG testing and epilepsy assessment
He also supervises and interprets electroencephalograms (EEGs), which assess brain activity to help confirm or exclude epilepsy, playing a key role in accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
Dr Rodrigues works with trained EEG technologists who record brain activity, which he then analyses to assist with investigating:
- Suspected epilepsy
- Seizure disorders
- Unexplained episodes of altered consciousness.
Training
Dr Rodrigues completed his specialist training in Clinical Neurophysiology at the prestigious Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm, followed by a fellowship in epilepsy at King’s College Hospital, London.
Current practice
Dr Rodrigues currently works part time at Robert Jones Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Gobowen.
He has previously held a substantive Consultant post at The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust, a leading UK neuroscience centre.
Alongside his clinical commitments, Dr Rodrigues has:
- Taught medical students, specialist registrars and technical staff
- Been actively involved in epilepsy research
- Contributed to advancing neurophysiology training and education.
