About

Dr Abdulfattah Lakhdar is a highly experienced Consultant Physician in Diabetes, Endocrinology and General Medicine, with more than four decades of clinical practice. He specialises in the diagnosis, assessment and management of endocrine disorders and provides expert care for patients aged 16 years and over.

His clinical interests cover the full spectrum of diabetes and endocrinology, with particular expertise in:

  • Thyroid and parathyroid disease

  • Pituitary and adrenal disorders

  • Endocrine hypertension

  • Hyperlipidaemia

  • Obesity and metabolic syndrome

  • Erectile dysfunction (ED)

Training and professional background

Dr Lakhdar qualified as a doctor in 1976 in Libya before completing a Master’s degree in Clinical Pharmacology at Glasgow University. He undertook postgraduate training in General (Internal) Medicine, Diabetes, and Endocrinology across major Glasgow hospitals.

He was appointed Consultant Physician in Diabetes and Endocrinology at The Lancashire Teaching Hospitals in 1996. In 2004, he moved to Whipps Cross University Hospital, London, where he is now Clinical Lead in Diabetes and Endocrinology, with a particular focus on diabetes‑renal disease.

Dr Lakhdar also leads an active research programme in:

  • Newer diabetes therapies

  • Diabetic complications

  • Obesity and metabolic disease
