About

I am a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon with many years of experience. I provide private care at Nuffield Health Derby Hospital and the Burton Clinic. I also work in the NHS at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton.

My aim is to provide safe, effective treatment while using minimally invasive (keyhole) techniques wherever possible. This can lead to less pain and a quicker recovery.

I qualified in medicine from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School in 1989.

I completed 13 years of specialist surgical training in the Wessex region. During this time, I gained broad experience in general surgery and developed a specialist interest in colorectal surgery (conditions affecting the bowel and rectum).

I also carried out research into immunotherapy (treatments that help the immune system fight cancer), focusing on solid tumours such as melanoma.

I was appointed as a Consultant Surgeon in 2003 and have over 20 years of experience at consultant level.

Specialist procedures

I offer a wide range of treatments, including:

  • Hernia repair (open and keyhole surgery), often using local anaesthetic where suitable
  • Laparoscopic (keyhole) gallbladder removal
  • Removal of skin lumps and soft tissue lesions
  • Endoscopy procedures, including:
    • Gastroscopy (to examine the stomach)
    • Colonoscopy (to examine the bowel)
  • Polypectomy (removal of bowel polyps)
  • Colonic stenting (to treat bowel obstruction)
  • Surgery for pilonidal disease, including reconstructive techniques
  • Treatment of haemorrhoids, fissures and fistulas

Where possible, I use keyhole surgery to support faster recovery and reduce discomfort.

  • Pilonidal sinus surgery (natal cleft infections), including primary closure and flap‑based procedures
