It often occurs as a result of a road traffic accident or an injury or fall. Damage to the ligaments and tendons in the neck can cause:

  • Stiffness
  • Headaches
  • Muscle tenderness
  • Dizziness
  • Vision problems

Often symptoms take six - 12 hours to develop.

In most cases whiplash symptoms get better on their own. Your GP may prescribe pain relief medication or physiotherapy.

If your symptoms continue or interfere with your daily activity you may be referred to a specialist consultant for treatment.
