We have put together a list of frequently asked questions about our diagnostic services.

If you have a question that we have not answered or would like further information please call us on 0845 602 9262.

Which diagnostic facilities do you have in the UK?

We have advanced imaging and pathology services across the UK. They include MRI, CT, X-ray, mammography, ultrasound and DEXA (bone densitometry), as well as allergy testing at some locations. The services available vary from hospital to hospital but all use state-of-the-art technology and turnaround times are fast. Click here to search by hospital or test/scan type.

Do you currently provide diagnostic services to the NHS?

Yes, we’ve been working with the NHS for over 50 years. We can provide diagnostic equipment and trained staff for when existing demand is too great or when a specific service is only needed temporarily. We’ve helped many thousands of referred NHS patients get fast, effective diagnostic care this way. Currently we work directly with primary care trusts (PCT), GPs and acute trusts to provide tailored, cost-effective diagnostic tests and scans. This includes crucial areas such as cytology screening, MRSA screening and neonatal screening for Down’s Syndrome. Our commitment to working with the NHS means we were the first independent healthcare provider to go live on the NHS choose and book system.

Do you operate mobile diagnostic services?

Yes, we have our own fleet of mobile service units equipped with the latest scanning technology. This includes MRI, CT and digital breast screening. Each mobile unit is self-sufficient and comes with the equipment and people to operate it. The units are easily accessible and have changing rooms and a waiting area, so customers are comfortable throughout. We’re constantly improving our units, and plan to introduce mobile ultrasound services in the near future.

Do you have read and reporting services for diagnostics?

Yes, we have a network of consultant radiologists and pathologists throughout the UK that we work with, so results are fast and accurate.

How fast can your pathology service produce results?

Typically on the same day that samples are taken. All Nuffield Health hospitals are linked by a nationwide pathology IT platform that produces standardised reports.

Are you making any investment in diagnostics?

Yes, we invested £50 million in our diagnostic services and facilities between 2007 and 2009. £10 million of this will cover PACS/RIS IT infrastructure in radiology and Clinisys IT infrastructure for pathology. £40 million will go on upgrading equipment in radiology and pathology and investing in industry-leading Imaging technologies. It’s all part of our commitment to providing you with fast, flexible diagnostic services that you and your patients can trust.

Are you Healthcare Commission (HCC) registered?

Yes. We’re regulated by the Healthcare Commission, which carries out regular inspections of all our hospitals.

Can a self-pay patient be referred to your facilities?

Yes. We want to make high quality diagnostic facilities available to everyone. Because we invest our profits back into our services and always try to find better ways of working, we can offer world class screening and testing services at a reasonable price.
