About

Mr Blanco-Guzmán has been practising Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for over 25 years. He completed his medical degree in 1992 and subsequently undertook a full five-year Dentistry degree, graduating in 1997.

After gaining experience in dental practice, he completed surgical training in England at Senior House Officer level across a number of specialities, including General Surgery, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Trauma and Orthopaedics, ENT and Accident & Emergency. During this period, he also obtained several surgical fellowships with the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCSI, FFDRCSI and FDS).

He then completed six years of specialist training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery across several units in the South West of England, before achieving the FRCSI (OMFS), confirming the completion of his specialist training. In 2007, he was appointed as a full-time Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Taunton, where he continues to provide NHS services alongside his private practice.

Mr Blanco-Guzmán is committed to providing clear communication and patient-centred care, ensuring patients fully understand their condition and all available treatment options. He believes strongly in involving patients in the decision-making process and tailoring treatment to each individual’s needs and expectations. He also works closely with colleagues from other specialities to support patients requiring multidisciplinary care.

Facial surgery requires both precision and careful attention to cosmetic outcome. Mr Blanco-Guzmán aims to provide the highest standard of treatment, including in complex reconstructive cases, always striving for the best possible functional and aesthetic results.


Special interests

  • Assessment and removal of benign skin lesions of the face, ears, head, neck and scalp (lipomas, sebaceous cysts, moles, skin tags and other skin lesions “lumps and bumps”)
  • Assessment and removal of complex skin lesions of the face, head, neck and scalp, along with the required reconstruction (skin grafts and skin flaps), always seeking a good cosmetic result
  • Assessment and treatment of skin cancers of the face, head and neck (basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and malignant melanoma) and reconstruction
  • Assessment of facial deformity and surgical treatment (Orthognathic Surgery), bone grafting and patient-specific (customised) facial implants
  • Assessment and reporting of CT, CBCT, MRI, OPT/OPG and intraoral X-rays
  • Assessment and treatment of facial trauma, including treatment of sequelae and complications
  • Temporomandibular joint (jaw joint) pathology, assessment and treatment
  • Assessment and treatment of intraoral pathology (lichen planus, white patches, papilloma, mucoceles) and other oral medicine conditions including dry mouth and burning mouth syndrome
  • Management of salivary gland conditions and parotid gland tumours (benign and malignant)
  • Surgical removal of teeth and/or roots under local anaesthetic, sedation or general anaesthetic. Removal of displaced teeth / roots in sinus.
  • Peri-prosthetic/pre-implantology oral surgery including bone grafting to the upper and lower jaws, sinus lifting and alveoloplasty. Frequently cooperating and supporting local dental practitioners.
  • Facial cosmetic medical treatments for wrinkles and skin creases
  • Therapeutic use of botulinum toxin (“Botox”) for medical conditions affecting the head and neck, including blepharospasm, sialorrhoea, sweating, bruxism, neck spasms and Frey’s syndrome

Personal interests

Outside work, Mr Blanco-Guzmán has a keen interest in carpentry, gardening and the outdoors. He particularly enjoys reading, long hikes, countryside activities and caring for animals on his smallholding, where he and his wife keep three dogs, two cats and four pet sheep.
