Coming into hospital as an Inpatient
If you are coming in for an Inpatient procedure, you will be staying one or more nights in hospital. There may be certain preparations before your arrival, and we’ll tell you what to expect when you decide to go ahead with treatment.
In general, we will ask you to complete a Health Questionaire before you come in, which covers relevant aspects of your health, highlighting any areas which may cause a problem such as allergies. Gathering this information allows us to provide you with the right care.
We may also ask you to discuss further health details with a nurse, either over the phone or at a specific ‘Pre-admission Assessment’ appointment. This is to make sure that you are well enough for your procedure, and to give you as much information as possible about your treatment. We will discuss your actual procedure, the best way to aid recovery, and there may be some routine tests.
Getting ready for your treatment
There may be certain preparations that you must make before your treatment such as avoiding food or drink for 4-6 hours before a general anaesthetic. We’ll send you a letter shortly before you are admitted giving advice that is specific to you. If by chance you don’t receive a letter, please call the hospital for advice – they will be happy to help.
If you become ill before you are due to come in, please do let us know as it may affect your planned treatment.
You will find fresh linen, hand and bath towels in your room. You may like to bring the following for your stay;
