About

Justin Davies is recognised globally as a leader and mentor in colorectal surgery. He has been a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge since 2007, where he has been in a senior clinical leadership role for over 15 years. Justin is an Affiliated Associate Professor at the University of Cambridge, a Fellow and Director of Studies at Downing College, Cambridge, and Past President of both The Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland and The Royal Society of Medicine Section of Coloproctology. He is the author of over 300 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and Co-Editor of two surgical textbooks.

His main clinical interests are in minimally invasive treatments. These include the treatment of haemorrhoids (including outpatient/daycase treatments such as suction banding and Doppler-guided THD/HALO), and the use of minimally invasive (laparoscopic, “keyhole”) surgery for bowel cancer, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis) and diverticular disease. He offers investigation and treatment for rectal bleeding and change in bowel habit, bowel cancer screening/colonoscopy, and treatments for other conditions affecting the "bottom" including anal abscess, anal fistula, anal fissure, etc. He provides open surgery for groin and abdominal wall hernias.

Research

Justin Davies is co-editor of 2 surgical textbooks and has published over 300 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. He undertook a Master of Surgery higher degree at the University of Cambridge, investigating less invasive methods of bowel cancer screening.

This work led to several prestigious research prizes, including the Patey Prize and the John of Arderne Medal, as well as publications in high-impact journals such as the Lancet and Nature Reviews Cancer.

He continues to undertake, supervise, present and publish clinical research, including serving as Principal Investigator for several clinical trials, with particular interests in minimally invasive surgery, improving outcomes for patients with inflammatory bowel disease, personalised colorectal cancer treatments, outcomes of laparoscopic (“keyhole") surgery, training and proctorship in robotic surgery, and minimally invasive haemorrhoid treatments.
