Why have we decided to close our spa pools?

Our fitness and wellbeing centres use a significant amount of energy and, like the wider sector and individual households, we’ve been faced with considerable rising utilities costs throughout this year.

We’re taking steps to manage these costs by implementing several energy efficient actions across our sites – starting by switching off our spa pools. The spa pools are expensive to heat and run and by switching them off across our nationwide network, we’ll significantly reduce our overall energy consumption while accelerating progress on our ambitious carbon net zero goals.

It will also ensure we can keep our swimming pools, saunas and steam rooms open for our members that highly value and benefit from these facilities.

How long will the spa be closed for?

We’ll be closing our spa pools from Monday 3 October for six months. We’ll keep reviewing member feedback as we manage our energy in the next few months.

Will saunas and steam rooms stay open?

Yes, however as the energy crisis unfolds, we’ll need to consider other measures and energy efficiency actions. We’ll keep you informed throughout.

Are you changing my membership fee as a result of this change?

No, at this time we will not be changing membership fees.

Can I freeze my membership as a result of this change?

From 1 November 2022, you will no longer have the option to immediately freeze or cancel your membership. Please speak to a staff member at your local centre who can advise you of your options.

What else are you doing to reduce energy consumption?

We’ll be introducing other ways to save energy in the next few months.

All changes will be clearly marked in your centre and you can ask a member of our team if you have any questions about any of the changes we make.

We’re committed to helping our members achieve their health and wellbeing goals and we have this front of mind when we’re making difficult decisions about how we conserve our energy to keep costs down.
